      During the month of September, Virtual Strides is hosting the Battle of the Badges to benefit both the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) and the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. 

      The Battle runs through the end of Sept. The NFFF receives $5 from everyone who registers to support us, plus the winning organization receives a $1,000 bonus. Register before 9/1 and the registration fee is reduced. You'll see a scoreboard showing which organization is in the lead.

      • Speedway To Honor Service Of Police Officers With Free Admission For Them And A Companion To Aug. 27 INDYCAR Race

      • Ticket Offer Also Will Be Extended To All First Responders

      FORT WORTH, Texas (August 3, 2016) - Texas Motor Speedway will play host to "Back The Blue Night" at the Firestone 600 Verizon IndyCar Series race on Saturday, Aug. 27, to display its appreciation for the dedicated service of police officers. 

      release"Back The Blue Night" will honor police officers near and far by providing them and a companion free admission to the Firestone 600. Police personnel will be required to show their badge or proper identification at the gate for admittance to the event that will have general admission seating. Texas Motor Speedway also will extend this offer to all first responders that show proper identification at the gate. 

      The Firestone 600 will begin at 8 p.m. CT and be televised live on the NBC Sports Network. The race also will be available live on the IMS Radio Network as well as locally on 95.9 The Ranch. 

      The Firestone 600 is the resumption of the race that was postponed Saturday, June 11, due to weather and rescheduled for the following day. A total of 71 of the scheduled 248 laps were run June 12 before the race was suspended due to inclement weather. The race, which now is in the championship stretch of the season as the third to last race, will resume on Lap 72 with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver James Hinchcliffe leading. 

      The "Restart Your Engines" schedule begins with gates opening to the public at 4 p.m. CT. Race activities start with a Verizon IndyCar Series practice from 4:30-5 p.m. and an autograph session featuring the entire driver field from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on the main concourse. 

      Texas Motor Speedway will be offering fans attending the one-day event some additional perks including $1 hot dogs and Coca-Cola beverages from Levy Restaurants and the first 3,000 fans receiving a free vintage Indy-car t-shirt compliments of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Properties. SMIP also will provide fans with free souvenir race programs from the original June event while supplies last.

      All frontstretch seating, including premium sections, will be general admission and priced at $28 with children 12 and under at $10.

      South Plains Fair starts September 22nd thru October 1st!!

      Two of our own LPFFA Members will be traveling to Seattle on March 6, to attend the 25th Annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb.

      This event is a 69 story climb up the Columbia Center in Downtown Seattle. The climb is done in full firefighting gear and breathing off of an air pack. This grueling task is done to help raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

      While operating at a stove fire at Summitwoods dr., Norwich dispatch reported to Battalion 1 that they had a fire alarm activation at 66 Franklin Street. Engine 2 and East Great Plains FD were assigned to the fire alarm while companies began to clear the stove fire.  While en route, dispatch advised Engine 2 that they were taking calls for smoke from the second floor.

      Livonia Fire Department battles suspicious fire

      The Livonia Fire Department says a fire at a home Sunday afternoon in the 8900 block of Farmington remains under investigation as suspicious in nature. Fire inspector Keith Bo said crews responded Sunday afternoon to the fire at the home near Farmington and Kentucky. He said no injuries were reported as the owner was not home at the time of the incident.

      "Westport firefighters tonight assisted Norwalk at a one-car rollover southbound just before Exit 40 in Norwalk. The car left the roadway, then rolled several times before coming to rest on a rock on its roof in the wooded area between the parkway and Creeping Hemlock Lane, said Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott.
